The Body Political, Canadian-Style

I was thinking today how the human body resembled the political sphere...

...or perhaps the other way around.

(As an aside, which came first? ... or would a rephrasing help: were there taxes BEFORE death? There certainly weren't before the Fall... Hmm. )

Right. So as the snake said, lets talk politics!

Of the Canadian Government, the executive/legislative branch most resembles the bulk of the gastrointestinal tract. They break things down, turn it around, and try to make the nation better and more energized because of it.

With me so far?

The PMO is like the frontal lobe -it generally chooses what the Government ingests. The 'food' of the government ought to be the wishes and desires of the people... but things can easily go awry, at which point the junk-food sails down ad-nauseum.

The press is like the upper digestive system, esophagus and stomach -they break issues into little packets, their acid breaks the ideas down into easily-acceptable bits, even if the result isn't so appetizing.

The Senate is like an infected appendix. It hasn't done anything useful in the longest time, and now it's now big, bloated, and a waste of the body's resources.

The top-level bureaucracy is like the brain stem -it make the whole thing work, nobody really thinks about it, and its decisions are exceptionally difficult to override.

The rest of the bureaucracy is like the fat, which serves a purpose, but nobody really knows what. Some people say that the expanding bureaucracy is expanding to serve the needs of the body, but really, it just expands to serve the needs of the expanding bureaucracy.

Finally, the Canadian people are the muscles, bones, rest of the brain, and all the other systems. They provide the structure, support everything, breathe into, and keep it all going, despite the horrible, defective nonsense they usually get fed in return.

And that's it.

So to all you rightly patriotic and idealistic Canadians out there who are trying desperately to reduce the role of government in our lives... good luck!!! You'll most certainly need it.
