The Great Snow Adventure

In case I haven't done enough penitence...

Well, perhaps that's not a good way to start.

Ok, ok...

I've been enjoying the snow. I've used my time off of school fairly wisely. The snow is gorgeous! And fun!

And... yet, amidst this aesthetic pleasingness and child-like joy was epic crisis, confusion, angst, quest, and conquest. This is the story:

Once upon a time (Sunday evening), there was a snow-storm. And since that storm, being both very cold and wet, was outside, all was well. However, thick blood, Russian and Albertan, boiled and coursed deep within, and going for a walk seemed like a good idea. Da.

And so it was, at the time... during the walk... and even as the icy snow, dropping from the heavens with near the consistency of that which a polyurethane-cutter produces, clung to and covered my head and clothing, I was happy.

Then, I discovered my unsecured keys had dropped merrily from my pocket. So for an hour we searched in vain, back-tracking, praying, gazing at the acres of whiteness...

And then I tried to break in... without breaking a window.
... and came to the discovery (sadness!) that I'd make a bad burglar. (Farewell to career-plan W!)

So then (12:30 at night), I knocked on the only awake neighbour's door and asked to borrow his ladder.

He obliged; I trudged through the snow, clanged mightily around, set it up...

And climbed up to the second storey...

.... and leaned out as best I could...
... pushed the blinds aside...
... and hefted myself through the window!

Ahh, Warmth.
Ahh, lack of ghastly plummet.

All for a good cause.

The Law and the Prophets

Every time I see injustice in the world, I'm thankful that justice is written on the hearts on the rest of us...

...at least those who haven't suppressed it with the myriad hordes of garbage our society uses to destroy what would otherwise be effective and passionate people.

Is there lawfulness without law?

There must be. When the state must lay out what is good and evil, permissible, just, whole, and good... We've either got far too much State or far too little soul; likely both.

Shall we test out our character? How have the laws written inside us fared?

Yeah, let us do so and take the adventure, whether to joy or to dismay.

So down with the police force, I say!

We're more than capable of being vigilantes of the state!

Let's give it a shot!

Before they give us one.

Today, meet Historical Precedent. Fight!

Since the dawn of time, History has known what to do with rampant outbreaks of philosophy far disconnected with reality, this lovely, lovely common experience we share.

Not that History's method hasn't had its foibles. Hemlock got rid of a decent guy.

But it got one thing right, according to a long-lost cave art recently discovered in the south of France (where else?):

Thog: Please pass the berries.
Hoarg: What berries?
Thog: The ones beside you.
Hoarg: How do you know they exist?
Thog: I can see them.
Hoarg: Well, that's truth for you.
Thog: How about technological applications of inertia-generated electromagnetic repulsion?
Hoarg: Is it an Authentic technological application?
Thog: Yes.
Hoarg: In which way do you mean, 'yes' to that question?
Thog: (whack)

Exactly.

Now where were such fine, upstanding people when nutcases who made excuses for tyranny, idiocy, and the acceptance of incoherency were about? There were some - think of the epic battles G.K. Chesterton fought.

But especially after WWII... who fought then?

If we are to create a new renaissance of Western Culture alongside our renaissance of technology, giving the slightest credence to the bizarre excesses of 'post-modernity', anti-foundationalist theories, and such minions seems a frightfully daft way to go about it.

Are we even listening, anymore? Are the soul's Great Questions too frequently drowned out? Don't get me wrong. The 'iPod'*(Trademarked! Please please please don't sue me, O myraid legions of faceless, soulless iLawyers!) is just an application, not the main event...

Perhaps this is a personal battle, to be fought mind-to-mind, heart-to-heart, soul-to-soul. So pass on a philosophy of life, of love, of sense; renew our respect of each other, of love, of vows, even of the excesses. Give us back the meaning interwined in each moment. Give us back the divine comedy of life.

Are you with me? There's the target. So put on your aluminum-foil helmet, we're going in.
